CASPER (Harveytoons / Paramount) jack-in-the-box

  This beautiful, uncommon find is an 11.5" metal jack-in-the-box showing Casper wearing a white shirt bearing his name in red lettering.  He has wobbling eyes and a wobbling mouth that jiggle when he pops out of the box.  The musical and pop-up mechanisms work just fine.  The jack-in-the-box has colorful graphics showing Casper playing his own personal getar, Baby Huey singing, Katnip dancing while Herman plays the bass, and Little Audrey and Buzzy prancing along.  The litho is in NM+ condition and is probably one of the nicest examples of this item that we have ever seen.  Best of all, it comes with its original box.  The box has some tears and clear tape repairs, but is present and in Fair condition.  This item was manufactured by Mattel in 1961.

COST = $240           BOXED WEIGHT: 3 POUNDS           ITEM NUMBER = 0406014

CASPER (Harveytoons / Paramount) squeeze toy

  This is a 7" vinyl squeeze toy showing Casper the Friendly Ghost standing with both arms raised.  He is smiling and looking downward and slightly toward his right.  His name is printed in black and red lettering on his chest/belly.  This item was manufactured in 1972 by Sutton.  Originally, it may have been a squeak toy; and if that is correct, it no longer squeaks.  Casper has no damage and only minor paint wear, leaving him in NM- condition.

COST = $32           BOXED WEIGHT: <2 POUNDS           ITEM NUMBER = 0109042

CASPER (Harveytoons / Paramount) figural votive candle holder

  This item is a genuinely rare find.  It is a 6" ceramic votive candle holder, showing Casper wearing a black skeleton costume.  He stands with both arms raised and smiles as he looks off toward his right side.  In front of him, there is a beheaded jack-o-lantern, and that is where the votive candle is placed.  The original, unused votive candle is present with this item.  Other than being in mint condition, what also makes this item quite rare is that it was a salesman's sample, and it retains its original sticker indicating that on the underside of the white base.  There is no indication on the item as to who made it or when it was manufactured, although it is probably a mid-1980s piece.

COST = $59           BOXED WEIGHT: <2 POUNDS           ITEM NUMBER = 1107042

CASPER (Harveytoons / Paramount) plush doll

COST = $15           BOXED WEIGHT: <2 POUNDS           ITEM NUMBER = 0205024

CASPER (Harveytoons / Paramount) bank

  This is a 12.5" vinyl bank showing Casper standing on a red mound, waving with his right hand and holding a red money sack in his lowered left hand.  The bank's coin slot is located on the back of Casper's head and the original cut-out area beneath the base has never been touched.  It appears that this bank was never used.  It is in NM- condition, with a few small spots of minor paint loss on the back of the base and the back of the money sack being its only flaws.  About 80% of the original copyright sticker remains intact on the front of the red base on which Casper stands, and it is faded.  This item was manufactured by Transogram in 1967 and is a pretty rare find, especially unused and uncut.  By the way, Casper's white areas even glow in the dark, to add a special extra dimension of fun to the bank!

CASPER (Harveytoons / Paramount) wooden pull-toy

  This beauty is a wooden pull-toy of Casper the Friendly Ghost, probably dating back to the later 1950s or earlier 1960s.  When the cord is pulled, the toy's red wooden wheels roll smoothly across the floor and Casper's arms alternate between which goes up and which goes down, alternately hitting the metal bars on top of the pull-toy's surface to give it a clanking xylophone-type sound.  The two red wooden parts that strike the metal bars are somewhat different from one another (one is a hemisphere and the other is a full sphere), so one may be a replacement piece.  Both look to be around the same age, though, and it is possible that the factory where this item was made used different types of wooden strikers for this toy.  The paper litho on both sides of the toy is completely intact with only minor surface wear.  Both sides show Casper flying in the air beside pictures of Little Audrey, Baby Huey, Spooky, and Buzzy Crow, all of whom are shown inside of yellow stars.  This toy is 10.5" tall and 9" wide.  It is complete and undamaged, with minor wear.  It is in EX to EX+ condition and is in amazingly clean, bright condition especially for its age.  It's a rare one . . . and a gem, too!

CAT IN THE HAT (Dr. Seuss) plastic bookends

c0399028.jpg (7060 bytes)  Although only one is shown, this is actually a PAIR of Cat in the Hat red plastic bookends.   Each one is 14" tall, showing the Cat in the Hat smiling and standing with his hands entwined above his stomach.  Although the only copyright marking on these items is for the year 1955, in all likelihood, they were manufactured sometime during the 1970s or 1980s.  Their maker is unmarked on both bookends.  Both are in mint condition.

CATHY wall plaque

  This is an embossed wooden wall plaque showing Cathy standing inside of a chocolate cupcake and on top of a white bathroom scale.  She wears red shoes and a red sweater with a white heart on it.  Above her, the black-lettering caption says You are what you eat!  This item is copyrighted but nowhere on it does it indicate who made it or when it was manufactured.  Our best guess is that this is a 1980s item.  It is undamaged and has a small manufacturer's flaw in the upper right-hand corner of the wood (visible in the photo) and an area on the right side of Cathy's head where the original price sticker's glue residue has been difficult to remove.  (Some of it came off with a gentle cleaning; some of it remains.  We did not scour this item any further, though, for fear of damaging the shiny litho veneer.)  In addition to the metal loop on the top of the plaque, which enables it to be hung on a wall, Cathy also has a fold-out cardboard stand in back, enabling her to be placed upright on a desktop or tabletop.
