POPEYE (Fleischer / King Features) magic slate
This
is a magic slate (here, it is referred to as a self-erasing clean slate) of Popeye.
So that we could provide you with a larger and clearer image of Popeye and the graphics on
the header card, we did not scan the bottom 2/3 of the actual magic slate itself.
Rest assured, though, that is it present and intact even though it is not shown in the
picture. This item is 8.25" wide and 13" tall. It was manufactured
by Lowe in 1963. The original writing stylus used to be inserted into the upper
portion of the header card, on back of the card. It is no longer present, as this
toy was used by its previous owner. Now, there is a small hole and a surrounding
paper tear in that area, resulting from the original owner's efforts to get the stylus out
for use. The thin plastic liftable, erasable area is present and about 95% of it is
intact. It has mostly (but not totally) torn loose from the stapled area beneath
Popeye's chin, where it attaches to the header card. Overall, this item is in G to
G+ condition.
COST = $12 BOXED WEIGHT: <2 POUNDS ITEM NUMBER = 1199082

red lettering caption on the bank says This bank is for lovely boys and girls.
The coin slot is located on top of the cylinder, and the top can be pried off to
allow access to the money placed inside. This item was manufactured by
Colleen Pencil Company and probably dates to the 1960s. The litho is in
very nice condition, with virtually no wear. The bank's only flaw, and it
is a very minor one, is some very minor corner/surface rusting (pin-prick sized
specks) located on the rim of the bank's lid. Overall, this item is in no
worse than near mint condition.

POPEYE (Fleischer / King Features) cast-iron bank
This is
a 9.25" cast-iron bank of Popeye. As with many of the older items of Popeye,
this one bears no copyright year so its exact age is unknown. This bank consists of
two heavy, thick cast-iron pieces that are joined together by a sunken screw in the middle
of Popeye's back. The item came with minor wear and minor rusting (primarily along
the seam where the banks two halves are joined, especially around the head) when it was
acquired, so it does not appear to be a recent piece. Popeye is shown wearing a
black sailor's shirt with red collar and yellow buttons, navy blue pants, yellow belt, and
black shoes. He has red raised anchors tattooed on his forearms. Overall, this
item is in VG+ condition, due to the minor paint loss and light surface rusting mentioned
above.

he winks and has his brown pipe in his mouth. The body is covered with a woolly
plush, off-white on top and bluish-grey on the bottom. Popeye has white felt hands
(all fingers are present and undamaged), glued-on black felt strips for his pants pockets,
and black felt feet. Inside of his chubby body, there is a chime that clanks around
whenever the rolypoly is batted about. This item was manufactured by Gund sometime
during the 1950s. The original manufacturer's label is present and in very nice
condition, attached securely to the bottom rear side of the rolypoly. The vinyl is
undamaged as is the plush, with very minor wear in a few very small spots. Overall,
this item is in NM- condition and is a very nice example of this difficult-to-find item.

copyrighted, licensed toy but there is no indication as to who made it. Popeye
probably dates to the 1950s. He is undamaged and in EX condition, with small
spots of minor paint loss being his principal flaw. Still, he’s pretty nice,

which is completely free of damage, is in EX condition. It has light
surface wear to the plush, but no holes anywhere on it. There is one small
yellowish-brown stain on the top of Popeye's left arm (clearly visible in the
photograph accompanying this description) and another on the back of his
shirt. There are a few very small spots of minor paint loss on his vinyl
hat, but the paint there generally is in very nice condition. This doll
was manufactured sometime during the 1950s by Gund as part of its Gundikins
collection. It retains its original manufacturer's label, which is in nice
condition and sewn securely into Popeye's left thigh.

cardboard stand-up of Popeye eating a can of spinach against a brightly-colored
floral background, one orange hoop, and one blue hoop. These items are in
mint condition, still sealed inside of their original clear-plastic blisterpack
and still contained on their original cardboard mounting card. The
mounting card shows Popeye getting strong by eating spinach as Brutus watches
him from behind. This item was manufactured in 1980, but the copyright
information provides no indication of the manufacturer. There is a partial
price sticker on the mounting card and a small area in the middle of that price
sticker where the paper litho has been torn on the surface.

3x3.75" resin Christmas ornament shaped like a yellow postage stamp. It
shows Popeye taking a swipe at the $0.32 price sticker on the stamp. This item
is in virtually perfect condition and it comes with its original red ribbon

POPEYE (Fleischer / King Features) toothbrush
This is a 7"
plastic battery-operated toothbrush set featuring Popeye standing atop the deck
of a small yellow rowboat, with his two red toothbrush "masts" in
front of him. This item is in mint condition and it comes with its
original box. The box has some edge wear, but is intact and generally in nice
condition, with colorful graphics and photographic images of Popeye. For
some reason, when we put batteries into the item, it appears not to be working,
even though it also appears that this item has never been used. Perhaps it
is simply too old to function properly anymore? Popeye was manufactured by
Nasta Industries in 1982.
COST = $25 BOXED WEIGHT: <2 POUNDS ITEM NUMBER = 0611034
POPEYE (Fleischer / King Features) hollow plastic figure
This is a
lightweight, hollow plastic figure of Popeye, standing 8.5" tall.
Popeye wears a white sailor's outfit with blue accents on his hat's brim, shirt
collar and buttons, and pants. Popeye's skin is dark flesh-colored and he
wears black shoes. He is shown with a can of spinach in his left hand, a
white spoon in his right hand, and sitting atop a large white spinach barrel
with blue bands across it. This item is undamaged, but as the picture
shows pretty well, it has a substantial amount of paint loss. Overall, it
is in G- condition. Our best guess is that this is a 1960s item, and in
all likelihood, it was one of ten "pins" used in some type of Popeye
bowling set/game. There is no copyright information on this item, so we do
not know for certain who made this item or when it was manufactured.
COST = $11 BOXED WEIGHT: <2 POUNDS ITEM NUMBER = 0601110
POPEYE (Fleischer / King Features) Christmas lights
This is a pretty
amazing find, if you ask us! It is a set/string of 8 plastic Christmas
lights featuring Popeye (and friends) . . . complete with its original
box. From left to right, the lights show Brutus pummeling Popeye (red),
Wimpy trying to borrow money from Popeye (yellow), Wimpy watching Popeye touch
another man's top hat (green), Popeye chasing a skipping man (blue), Popeye
having recently punched Brutus to the ground (white--two like that), Popeye
having punched another man to the ground (blue), and Popeye and Olive Oyl
staring at a boulder (red). The lights still work just fine after all
these years. Their box has beautiful, colorful graphics on it. This
item was manufactured by Reliance sometime during the 1930s. The lights
themselves are in NM to NM+ condition. The box is intact with some edge
and corner wear, but is very nice considering the age of the item--probably in
EX- condition. "Beautiful" and "rare" are probably the
best words to describe this item!
